Generation Initiative for Women and Youth Network (GIWYN)  (WEBSITE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER) formally known as Generation Foundation is a Nigerian non-governmental organization established in 2005. GIWYN’s work is grounded in the realities of the women and young people who lack economic, social and political power. GIWYN strives to ensure women and youth’s sexual and reproductive rights and that every woman and young person is able to make sexual and reproductive health and rights choices, and access high quality healthcare, including contraception and abortion. GIWYN is a part of the National Coalition for Safe Abortion Advocacy in Nigeria promoting and advocating for access to contraception and to information on safe and legal abortion.

GIWYN has a reputation of a small but dynamic organization. Collaboration, partnerships, linking and learning are the guiding principles for implementing activities. In 2011 and 2012 GIWYN has witnessed an increase in collaboration and partnerships with both national and international actors.

GIYWYN actively participates in WGNRR’s May 28 and September 28 campaigns:

Since 2012 GIWYN focuses on reduction of unsafe abortion in Nigeria. GIWYN was the leading organisation in WGNRR’s Safe Abortion Advocacy Project in Nigeria and has been the driving force in combating unsafe abortion in the country. Work on a project Advocacy and Abortion Stigma in Nigeria (ASTIN) funded by Safe Abortion Action Fund (SAAF) led to the establishment of a hotline in Nigeria that provided information about the use of Misoprostol and reproductive choices.

GIWYN uses a variety of mediums to promote and advocate for SRHR, including seminars, meetings, public performances, social media, telephone hotline among others.
