16 Days of Activism: How will you take action this November 25?
November 25 marks the beginning of the annual 16 Days of Activism global campaign to end Gender Based Violence (GBV). Over the years, the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights has mobilized activists, allies and advocates from around the world to bring awareness to the persistent and pervasive issue of GBV, including violations against the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people. Furthermore, each year WGNRR calls on all governments to uphold their commitments to international treaties, highlighting that when governments fail to ensure access to SRHR services, either through upholding restrictive laws or obstructive barriers, they are complicit in institutional violence because of the resulting detrimental effect on women and girls’ lives. One of the clearest examples is the denial of access to safe and legal abortion (even in cases of rape or incest), where women and girls are then forced either to carry unwanted pregnancies, or resort to unsafe abortion, and are thereby subjected to cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment, as acknowledged by Human Rights Bodies.
At present, WGNRR does not receive financial support or funding for our global reproductive justice campaigning. The good news is that WGNRR has just earned a place on the Global Giving Accelerator Program! This program provides organizations with amazing opportunities, with thousands of dollars, lifetime membership on the platform and increased public relations to donors all up for grabs! In order for WGNRR to avail of all these opportunities, we must raise $5,000 from at least 40 donors in 5 weeks.
On the occasion of the 16 Days of Activism Campaign, we ask allies, activist and partners to support WGNRR as one of the few advocacy and campaigning actors that highlight the link between the gross human rights violations individuals experience worldwide and the various forms of SRHR-related gender-based violence. We invite members, partners and allies to join us in the 16 days of activism and participating in small but tangible ways by keeping WGNRR’s campaigning efforts strong and relevant. We are asking for your support; please make a donation or if that is not possible, please share our Global Giving page on your social media and directly with your contacts.
