Roundup: CSW, APFSD, GEF and CPD!
#CSW65
This year, United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the intergovernmental body dedicated to gender equality, is on its 65th session with the priority theme, “Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”.
WGNRR engaged the CSW processes as part of the Women’s Rights Caucus, a global coalition of more than 200 feminist organizations, networks and collectives that advocates for gender equality at the United Nations. We joined other members of the WRC in a press conference at the close of the UN CSW.
WGNRR Executive Director Marevic Parcon was also was also a speaker at a CSW parallel event entitled, “SRHR is Key to Gender Equality” organized by the Asia-Pacific Resource and Research Center on Women (ARROW) which featured regional SRHR and safe abortion activists.
APFSD and APFSD Youth Forum
WGNRR also participated in the Asia-Pacific Youth Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) and the earlier APFSD Youth Forum.
Executive Director Marevic Parcon and SRHR advocacy officer Belonguel joined APFSD roundtable discussions led by UN Agencies on the SDGs on Health and Inequality and shared insights as part of the the CSO caucus, Asia Pacific Regional CSO Engagement Mechanism (APCREM).
Meanwhile, the Youth Forum was attended by Belonguel, Youth SRHR advocacy officer Danica Magtubo and members of the Young Advocates for SRHR, contributing to the Asia-Pacific Youth Youth Call to Action and Philippines’ Youth Call to Action this year.
GEF Mexico Forum!
WGNRR also joined the Generation Equality Forum in Mexico held last March 29-31, attending sessions hosted by the Action Coalition on Bodily Autonomy and SRHR.
#CPD54 #CPDisBack
WGNRR also participated in the 54th session of the Commission on Population and Development! We submitted a written statement on this year’s theme, population, food security, nutrition and sustainable development.
This year, the CPD was able to produce an outcome resolution for the first time since 2016! Read the statement from the International Sexual and Reproductive Rights Coalition (ISRRC) welcoming the resolution here.
We thank all the partners and coalitions we work in for making these engagements truly worthwhile experiences. Let us keep pushing and holding governments and institutions accountable to their human rights obligations to women and girls, in all their diversity, everywhere!
