Background

WGNRR is a southern-based global feminist network that strengthens movements for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and justice. Our work is grounded in the realities of those who most lack economic, social and political power. Through critical analysis and strategic actions, we connect members and allies, build knowledge, organize campaigns and share resources. Purpose and Coverage

The Campaigns and Communications Officer will support the delivery of quality communications content and WGNRR’s overall advocacy strategy for the realization of SRHR for all through a rights-based, feminist, and reproductive justice approach.

The Campaigns and Communications Officer will be primarily responsible for coordinating the September 28 International Safe Abortion Day and May 28 campaigns, both locally and globally, which include media and communications strategy, creating content for digital media, managing the September 28 and May 28 websites, and increasing online engagement with supporters and partners. She will be responsible for the May 28 Campaign and any other regional and global campaigns that WGNRR will take up during the period.

This position will also support WGNRR’s advocacy and communications work, both online and offline, for its various projects. The Campaigns and Communications Officer will be supervised by WGNRR’s Executive Director and will work closely with the Programmes Team. The role will also be the focal point for specific advocacy projects as assigned by the Executive Director. The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills and a passion for abortion rights and SRHR.

She should have excellent written and verbal English language skills, with a flair for creative designing, and will be responsible for all owned media—including websites, social media pages, announcements, and the design of adverts, etc. She should have excellent negotiation skills and should be able to work and coordinate with various regional and global agencies for campaigns, conferences, and the like.

Key responsibilities

1. Campaign Strategy and Implementation

  • Design, develop, and implement impactful advocacy campaigns on SRHR issues, including the September 28 and May 28 campaigns, for public awareness, policy engagement, and movement-building initiatives.
  • Collaborate with partners, members, and stakeholders to amplify advocacy efforts at local, regional, and global levels.
  • Monitor global and regional SRHR developments to identify opportunities for proactive campaigning
  • Prepare matrix and reports after every campaign.
  • Provide end to end solutions for events related to campaigns and advocacy (drafting letters, invites, budgets, scouting for partners, speakers etc.)
  • Be focal point for advocacy programme like the Centre for Transformative Narratives and work in collaboration with partners and donors.
  • Represent WGNRR in advocacy spaces locally and globally to promote SRHR issues and campaigns, ensuring that the voices and priorities of the most marginalized are centered in the conversations.

2. Content Creation and Communications

  • Develop and curate compelling content for campaigns and stakeholder communications, including blogs, newsletters, press releases, social media posts, fact sheets, and campaign toolkits.
  • Assist with the management of all platforms of WGNRR to ensure timely posts and responses to the audience. Increase digital traction and audience. Maintain all digital channels safely.
  • Develop and implement social media strategy and best practices across various platforms and social communities – proactively acquiring fans.
  • Support on the development of promotional and campaign materials or other externally published material.
  • Help outsource (design/layout, website, printing, translations, etc.) as needed
  • Assist in dissemination of relevant information to members/partners/allies and other program officers.

3. Monitoring, Learning, and Knowledge Management

  • Collating and storing relevant resources.
  • Attend monthly Project Team meetings and other team meetings face to face or via Zoom and take minutes.
  • Assist in properly documenting WGNRR activities of projects by taking photos, recordings, and organizing the identification and safekeeping of the digital collection.
  • Track the effectiveness of campaigns and communication initiatives using data, feedback, and relevant metrics and provide such information in support of donor and project and stakeholders reporting as necessary

4. Media Relations and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Building strong relationships with key people in media agencies, and other key stakeholders; ensure that contacts and distribution databases are properly maintained.
  • Maintain WGNRR’s partners’ list with detailed information.
  • Assist in collating and analyzing media coverage.

5. Other responsibilities

  • Attend monthly WGNRR team meetings and other meetings face to face or via online platforms.
  • Undertake other activities as requested to support WGNRR mission and vision.
  • Any other roles and responsibilities assigned by the ED and or SMT.
  • Assist in drafting proposals for fundraising, making submissions to various conferences and events

Qualifications

  • 3-4 years experience in campaigns and communications
  • Excellent verbal and written English skills
  • Proven track record of working with cross-functional teams, global teams.
  • Additional knowledge of working French will be an added advantage
  • Based in the Philippines

We are seeking a highly creative and proactive individual who can think outside the box and work across time zones. The position is based at WGNRR’s global office in the Philippines, with remote supervision and direct reporting to the Executive Director.

Compensation

The Campaigns and Communications Officer is a full-time position with an employee contract. The benefits will comply with the labor laws in the Philippines and will include, at minimum, 21-day paid vacation leave, health care coverage and 13th month pay. The salary band for this position is PHP 42,000.00 – 44,000.00 and is commensurate with experience & qualification.
