Now Hiring: Consultant Writer for Capacity Strengthening of Generation Changemakers
Background
Since 2022, through the support of the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR), WGNRR has been able to support youth-led and child rights organizations to raise key issues and priorities related to bodily autonomy in the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and abortion. Starting from building their capacities on SRHR and engaging with human rights monitoring and review mechanisms such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), young people were able to contribute and raise key issues on adolescent SRHR. The sustained engagement of youth-led and children’s rights organizations have resulted in widened opportunities for organizations to advocate for SRHR at the global level and seek accountability from the government.
Sustaining support for young people’s actions for SRHR is crucial to build on achievements gained and advance their rights. In line with the WGNRR 2023-2025 strategic plans which prioritize the full integration of youth perspectives and youth-specific issues into our work, WGNRR ensures that young people, especially young women, have the opportunity to lead SRHR actions and have their voices heard in decision-making processes. We continue to focus on strengthening capacities, supporting actions, and widening spaces for engagement for young people’s SRHR.
In 2023, the Generation Changemakers composed of various youth-led organizations in the Philippines were gathered to enhance their capacity to advocate for bodily autonomy issues that matter to them such as the removal of third-party consent requirements for adolescents’ access to sexual and reproductive health services, comprehensive sexuality education, and safe abortion. They were also able to produce a draft Young People’s Manifesto on Bodily Autonomy which highlights their issues, demands, and commitments collectively.
Since then, WGNRR has been able to support campaign actions on sexual and reproductive health and rights, including campaigns for safe abortions and for the passage of the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancy (PAP) bill of Generation Changemakers. To sustain and strengthen the capacity of Generation Changemakers, and other gains through the Center for Reproductive Rights grant, WGNRR aims to:
- Foster collaboration among Generation Changemakers and other youth-led organizations in creating an advocacy guide on bodily autonomy, comprehensive sexuality education, safe abortion, and evolving capacities of adolescents.
