We are thrilled to announce that Nur Hidayati “Handa” Handayani has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the WGNRR Board of Trustees. Handa has been a dedicated member of WGNRR since 2010, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to our organization. Her appointment continues WGNRR’s commitment to leadership from young women from the global south.
Handa’s journey in advocacy began at the age of 18 when she volunteered for a sexual and reproductive health and rights organization. This early experience ignited a lifelong commitment to human rights. Over the years, she has seamlessly integrated her academic knowledge with practical expertise to uphold WGNRR’s values of feminist leadership, justice, and intersectionality. She holds a Master’s in Counselling from Auckland University and an MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care from Oxford University. As a trained mental health counselor, she specializes in supporting marginalized communities within humanitarian settings and serves as a program specialist addressing gender and SRHR-related issues.
Reflecting on her new role, Handa shared, “I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the Chair of WGNRR. This opportunity is both a humbling and empowering experience. Embracing the principles of intersectional feminism, I envision WGNRR pioneering innovative approaches as a global south network, ensuring that our work in reproductive rights and justice addresses the diverse and intersecting experiences of womxn. Together, we can create inclusive, compassionate, and impactful solutions that uplift marginalised communities and promote a more equitable world.”
With 40 years in action, WGNRR looks forward to having partners with us in our commemorations, campaigns, and beyond as we continue making herstory in achieving sexual and reproductive health and rights for all. Handa’s appointment reinforces our dedication to fostering leadership from young women in the global south. We also want to hear from you: how can we work together to strengthen our intersectional movement for SRHR and justice?
