Join the Take Back the Tech! Campaign
On July 21, 2014 the Take Back the Tech! campaign was launched. Take Back the Tech! is a collaborative campaign to reclaim information and communication technologies (ICT) to end violence against women (VAW). The campaign calls on all ICT users – especially women and girls – to take control of technology and strategically use any ICT platform at hand (mobile phones, instant messengers, blogs, websites, digital cameras, email, podcasts and more) for activism against gender-based violence.
The campaign website is available in English, French and Spanish.
Get involved!
Let’s make Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to:
- Take a clear stand on violence against women in their terms of services
- Engage with diverse civil society to find solutions for safer platforms
Start spreading the word through Facebook and Twitter! See this Google Doc for tweets, posts and contact information for various executives and departments of Facebook, Twitter and Google (for YouTube).
What YOU can do?
- Ask: “What are you doing about violence against women?”. Use questions and tweets to request more information from these companies under #whatareyoudoingaboutVAW or #MujeryViolenciaQHacesTu.
- Use the campaign’s Report Card Format to rate social media on various aspects related to violence against women. Results will be compiled and shared.
- Share: Have a story about your own experience? Let everyone know! Tweet, film, post and blog stories. Add them anonymously to the campaign’s MAP.
- Demand: Tell these companies what you want. Share your solutions.
The Campaign will follow up by sending the companies crowdsourced ideas they can put into practice.
