Marevic “Bing” Parcon
Marevic- or Bing, as she is known- joined WGNRR in August 2009. As the Asia Programme Officer, Bing is responsible for membership and networking, campaigning and advocacy activities on sexual and reproductive health and rights in the Asian region. She also implements the capacity building activities and supports the local partners, building alliances with regional networks, gathering data for M&E, sharing outputs of the capacity building activities with WGNRR partners.
Bing is a women’s rights worker and advocate for two decades with expertise in gender issues, paralegal work and community-based training on violence against women and sexual and reproductive rights. Her activism began in the 1990s as a women and students’ rights organiser and continued with the women’s movement after college. In year 2000, together with a team of lawyers and paralegals, she helped in the establishment a feminist legal organisation called WomenLEAD Foundation. She also worked with local and international NGOs as a trainer, paralegal, advocacy officer and programme officer; organised national and international events on a feminist legal framework, militarism and war, aid effectiveness, globalization, gender and conflict, UN processes, post-2015 development agenda, SRHR, abortion rights, among others.
Bing holds BA Sociology from CAP Philippines and credits in Gender and International Studies. She speaks English, Tagalog and Visayan.
