Reject Anti-LGBTI law criminalizing same-sex sexual activity in Uganda!

LGBTQI+ rights are human rights!

WGNRR and partners stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and women human rights defenders (WHRD) from Uganda against attacks on rights to sexual and reproductive health and rights, bodily autonomy, and freedom from all forms of discrimination and gender-based violence.

Uganda’s Parliament has passed the “2023 Anti-Homosexuality Bill,” a law criminalizing same-sex relationships and members of the LGBTQI+ for identifying as part of the community. It also lays persecution on human rights defenders and funding organizations that support LGBTQI+ rights.

This is in direct violation of Uganda’s obligations to ensure non-discrimination, equitable gender inclusion, and respect for human dignity for all people in Africa under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, as well as the Maputo Protocol.

Stand with the Ugandan LGBTQI+ community and women human rights defenders. Reject the Anti-LGBTI Law NOW!
