WGNRR’s statement for the 68th Session of the CSW

We emphasize that gender equality and empowerment for all can only be achieved if women and girls are provided with the opportunities for full and equal participation in development. These opportunities are intrinsically linked to rights-based SRH programs, the removal of burdensome and anti-choice institutions, and the uncompromising pursuit of development justice. At the core of the mission to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls lies the universal and complete realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The SRHR4All Dialogues bring together SRHR advocates, other civil society organizations, and human rights actors to engage in an intersectional and intergenerational conversation, envisioning the future and charting pathways forward. The Dialogue Serie seeks to create spaces for women’s rights organizations, youth-led organizations, other civil society organizations, and advocates to share experiences and learnings towards defining a transformative agenda and to share effective practices and strategies to strengthen accountability towards #SRHR4All. 

Leadership Transition at WGNRR

In a significant transition for the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR), Executive Director Marevic “Bing” Parcon will be stepping down from her role after a 6-year tenure and 14-years at WGNRR. A new Executive Director is to assume by March 2024.

A Guide to Campaign Messaging for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Globally, we take part in the 16 Days of Activism Against gender-based violence (GBV), and observe the Philippines’ 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). As this year’s call to action theme goes, “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”, we cannot underestimate the critical role played by well-funded and robust SRHR institutions and programs in realizing #SRHR4ALL and eradicating GBV.

Feminist Organizations Call to Uphold CEDAW Recommendations to Fulfill SRHR and Decriminalize Abortion

In its 2023 Concluding Observations, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women reiterated its recommendations to the Philippine government on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Specifically, the Committee called for improving women’s access to antenatal, perinatal, and postnatal health services to reduce the high rates of maternal mortality, including by training midwives and other relevant health professionals, especially in rural areas. The Committee also recommended providing adequate access to sexual and reproductive health services and information, including family planning, modern forms of contraception, and safe abortion & post-abortion services for women and girls, including those who are located in rural areas, unmarried, and women and girls with disabilities.
