Vanessa Coria Castilla
Vanessa joined WGNRR in April 2012 being responsible for creating and developing advocacy strategies for sexual and reproductive health and rights with a human rights and feminist perspective, both globally and regionally, in coordination with WGNRR officers. Vanessa is also responsible for overseeing along with the Executive Director WGNRR programme areas and activities and supporting Programme Officers for achieving WGNRR objectives and goals. Since 2013 Vanessa is based in Mexico City focal point office for Latin America and the Caribbean, where she implements WGNRR strategies within the region.
Vanessa is a Mexican human rights and feminist lawyer with more than nine years of experience in developing national, regional and international advocacy and litigation strategies before human rights mechanisms such as the Inter American System for Human Rights and the UN Bodies, looking for structural changes to advancing human rights in different areas, especially women’s rights using different types of strategies. She holds a BA in Law from ITESM-CCM. She studied one year of Law School at Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain as part of an internship programme. She has post graduate studies in “Human Rights and Women: Theory and Practice” from University of Chile and in “Population, Equity in a Changing World” from El Colegio de México. Vanessa had published papers and articles in human rights issues and has taught in several courses, diplomas and workshops, including the Diploma on “Human Rights and Women: Legal Strategies for the Advocacy” from the Women’s Rights Program of the University of Chile.
