WGNRR condemns the murder of LGBTQI rights activist Diana Sacayán

WGNRR condemns the murder of Argentinian trans activist for the rights of the LGBTQI community, Diana Sacayán. Diana was part of the team of the Sexual Diversity Program of INADI (National Institute Against Discrimination Xenofobia and Racism) and was a leading voice in the struggle for trans rights. She was also leader of the International Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Association (ILGA) and leader of the Antidiscriminatory Liberation Movement (MAL). We will continue working for Diana’s ideals towards a world without transphobia and homophobia.

We demand the Argentinian government to investigate and punish these kinds of gender crimes which are a concerning issue throughout the region. Latin America accounted for 78% of the 1,731 murders of transgender and gender-diverse people reported worldwide between January 2008 and December 2014(1).

La RMMDR condena inequívocamente la muerte de la activista argentina Diana Sacayán quien era una vocal activista luchadora por los derechos de la comunidad LGBTQI. Diana formaba parte del equipo del Programa de Diversidad Sexual de INADI y era una impulsora de la lucha por los derechos de las personas trans. Era la líder de la Asociación Internacional de Lesbianas, Gays y Bixesuales (ILGA) y dirigente del Movimiento Antidiscriminatorio de Liberación (MAL). Desde la RMMDR nos comprometemos a continuar trabajando por los ideales de Diana hacia un mundo sin transfobia ni homofobia.

Exigimos al gobierno de Argentina que investigue y castigue este y todo tipo de crímenes de género, los cuales son ya un tema recurrente y preocupante en la región. Tan sólo en América Latina se registraron el 78% de los 1,731 asesinatos de personas transgénero y de género no binario reportados mundialmente entre Enero de 2008 y Diciembre del 2014.(1)
